Coach Iain Shovelin
“Fencing has really been a way of life for me,” Says British Coach Iain Shovelin. “I was okay at other sports, but when I tried fencing almost 30 years ago, it opened up a whole new world for me. It was different and really fun to do; just one-on-one, and either fencer could score the next hit, regardless of their stature in the fight.”
As a teacher in Tempe Elementary School District, Coach Iain knows the importance of making learning fencing fun, however, he hastens to add that “self-esteem grows through overcoming challenges—those that stick with this sport are constantly trying to better themselves.”
“I would put my 4-week beginner program up against anything in the country. With a short commitment, it’s an opportunity to experience the 4 main elements: Footwork/Defense/Attacks/Bouting, and then discover if the sport is for you.”
