Ra’ad (Rod) Rabieh CFA Associate Coach Foil & Epee Director: Mountain View As an athlete and coach, Rod Rabieh has over 22 years of fencing experience (10 of which as a coach) in all three weapons. Rod started fencing at the age of 13 in Jordan when he was recovering from a martial arts injury. He trained in Jordan with coaches from China, France and Germany. He fenced for and coached at the California Fencing Academy in the '90s in Los Gatos. Later Rod moved to Arizona, where he became a coach at Arizona State University. Later he was responsible for co-founding and developing a program for the Arizona Fencing Center where he was also a coach. He coached there for some time before he moved on with Coach Iain Shovelin to establish a fencing club, the International Fencing Academy in Mesa, Arizona. Coach Rabieh has taken his students to very high levels winning a gold medal at a world cup competition in Montreal, Canada, as well as many other high level national and international placements. He has steadily and quickly brought out foil and epee students' talents raising them through the ranks and ratings, and on to college scholarships. He went back to Jordan from July 2005 to January 2007 where he was coaching Jordanian fencers, as well as working with the Jordanian National Team in preparation for the Foil World Cup held in Jordan March 2007. During the Pan Arab games held in Jordan this past August 2006, his students won many medals including Gold, Silver and Bronze. Rod has earned and been awarded many medals and titles as a competitive athlete. He was the national champion in his home country of Jordan and ranked number one for six years. He was a member of the national team for about ten years. On the collegian level Rod was the Emerited Kingdoms Champion in foil and ranked number two in both epee and saber. He was honored by The Jordanian Olympic Committee, The Jordanian Fencing Federation, The Jordanian Ministry of Youth, and is a member of the International Jordanian Athletes Cultural Association. After his trip back to Jordan, Coach Rod moved back to the Bay Area to be closer to his 5-year-old daughter “Nour” and to become a CFA coach and the Foil & Epee Director of the California Fencing Academy’s Mountain View Club.
